33rd Division Suffers Heavy Losses in Wetlet Township as PDFs Launch Successful Offensives

In a significant development in Myanmar’s ongoing conflict, the 33rd Division of the Military Council suffered severe losses in Wetlet Township during the battle for Ohnhe Bok village. On January 4, reports confirmed that about 12 soldiers from the division surrendered to the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), while many others were killed in action.

According to revolutionary forces, the PDFs ambushed a column of approximately 120 soldiers, leaving only about 40 troops remaining. This marks another major blow to the 33rd Division, which had recently returned from Rakhine after suffering defeats there.

The operation began when the 33rd Division entered Sar Taung village in Sagaing City with three armored vehicles. Their objective was to ambush the police station in Sheim Ma Ka village. During their advance, the soldiers took four villagers from Ywa Nan village as hostages before proceeding toward Ohnhe Bok village.

On January 4, the division occupied key locations in Ohnhe Bok, including homes, monasteries, and schools. However, PDFs launched a coordinated attack, causing the military column to collapse. By evening, the four hostages were released.

Initial reports also indicate that PDFs successfully attacked another military column in Wetlet Township, further destabilizing the Military Council’s forces in the region.

This latest victory for the PDFs highlights their growing strength and resilience in the face of the Military Council’s offensives. The defeat of the 33rd Division marks a turning point in the revolutionary forces’ efforts to regain control over Wetlet Township and surrounding areas.
