In a significant blow to the Myanmar Military Council, 16 soldiers, including a major, surrendered during the capture of the Hla Gun Pyo military camp near the Phapun-Bilin road on January 7, 2025. The operation was led by forces from the Southern Military District No. (2) Military Region, under the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG).

A Key Strategic Victory

The Hla Gun Pyo military camp is a critical location along the Phapun-Bilin route, which provides logistical support to other military camps in the area. Its fall represents a strategic victory for the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and allied forces. This military camp’s capture disrupts the military council’s supply lines and weakens its stronghold in the region.

Surrender of Soldiers

According to reports, 16 soldiers, including a major, laid down their arms and surrendered during the battle. The surrendered personnel were safely received and secured by PDF forces and their allies, demonstrating the growing momentum and organizational strength of the revolutionary forces. Additionally, six soldiers fled without surrendering, further highlighting the camp’s compromised state during the assault.

Official Statements

Brigadier General Saw Kaledo, spokesperson for the 5th Brigade, confirmed the camp’s capture and the surrender of soldiers. “The successful operation on January 7 emphasizes the unity and resilience of the revolutionary forces against the military dictatorship,” he stated.

Growing Momentum for the Revolution

The victory at Hla Gun Pyo is one of several recent gains by resistance forces, indicating a shift in the conflict’s dynamics. As more soldiers defect or surrender, the Spring Revolution continues to gain ground in its fight for freedom and democracy in Myanmar.

This decisive win marks another milestone in the ongoing battle for justice and liberation.
