The Salingyi Township People’s Administration has issued a stern warning to Nan-CDM employees working at the Letpadaung and Sampae Taung copper projects in Sagaing Region. According to the announcement, any Nan-CDM employees who fail to comply with orders to come forward by the end of January will face arrest and subsequent punishment.

The statement highlights that Nan-CDM employees at these sites are seen as critical supporters of the military council’s mechanism, allegedly prioritizing its continuation over the will of the people and the goals of the Spring Revolution. This comes amid escalating efforts by the administration to dismantle the influence of those associated with the military council.

Previously, on October 20, 2024, the Salingyi Township People’s Administration had issued a similar directive. Nan-CDM employees at these copper projects were asked to comply by October 31, 2024, but it remains unclear how many responded to the call. The renewed warning emphasizes the administration’s commitment to holding these individuals accountable and disrupting activities perceived as supporting the military council.

This development underscores the growing tension in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region, where the fight for control over resources and allegiance remains fierce. The Letpadaung and Sampae Taung copper projects are not just industrial sites but have become symbolic battlegrounds in the broader struggle for freedom and democracy in Myanmar.

Observers note that these actions could lead to heightened unrest in the region as the administration seeks to enforce compliance and assert its authority. The ongoing conflict serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing Myanmar as it grapples with political instability and widespread resistance.
