On January 3, a significant clash erupted between the Arakan Army (AA), the People’s Defense Force (PDF), and SAF forces in Tharpaung Township, Ayeyarwady Division. This marks a bold infiltration into the region, showcasing the growing strategic operations of the revolutionary groups.

The conflict occurred at Warachaung, a stream connecting Tharpaung and Bawmi on the outskirts of the Rakhine Yoma. Residents reported heavy fighting as the AA and PDF, along with SAF (Students’ Arms Force), aimed to secure control of a Chinese pulp mill located within the township. The area is seen as a critical asset due to its industrial importance and strategic location.

According to sources, the clash resulted in substantial casualties on the side of the SAF, with many soldiers killed and others missing in action. Local reports also suggest that the AA, PDF, and SAF forces have successfully advanced into Tharpaung Township, crossing the seafront and positioning themselves for further engagement.

Military analysts in the area confirm that this offensive highlights the increasing capabilities and coordination of the AA, PDF, and SAF. Their ability to penetrate deep into regions traditionally under military council control demonstrates their intent to expand their influence and challenge the regime’s stronghold in Ayeyarwady Division.

This development underscores the intensifying conflict in Myanmar, as revolutionary groups continue to assert their presence in key areas. The ongoing clashes reflect the determination of the resistance forces to disrupt the military’s control and advance their pursuit of democracy and justice.
