January 11, 2025 – Authorities, led by Deputy Police Colonel Khin Naing, are intensifying their investigation into the recent Aung Pan prison break in southern Shan State. The operation involves the CID, Special Intelligence Service (SB), and the Nay Pyi Taw Ministry, focusing on tracking down the escaped prisoners and uncovering the details of the incident.

A team of approximately 20 officers, led by Deputy Police Colonel Khin Naing, is conducting searches across Thar Si, Pindaya, Ham Myint Mor, and Yak Saw areas in Kalaw District. Despite their efforts, the prisoners remain at large as of January 11.

According to a source close to the police station, the escape occurred on the morning of January 9, after the prisoners spent nearly a day and a half cutting through the iron and wooden pillars of the prison using a hacksaw. The noise from running water and the prisoners’ chants during prayers reportedly helped mask the sound of the breakout.

The prison break was allegedly orchestrated by Min Min Oo (b.) Min Maung (33) and Aung Khaing Oo (b.) Aung Gyi (26), who were convicted of murdering a mother and son at the Kalaw intersection last year. The pair had also robbed their victims of motorcycles and jewelry.
