Colonel Aung Naing, a key military strategist for Myanmar’s Military Council, has reportedly died during a fierce battle in Mansi Township. Initial reports from military sources confirm that the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces have successfully captured the remaining three military council battalions stationed in the area.

The battle for Mansi, which began on December 4 as part of the larger offensive in Bhamo, saw the KIA and its allies targeting the 601st Infantry Regiment, the 319th Infantry Regiment, and the 523rd Artillery Regiment. On December 25, reports indicated that all three battalions had been overtaken, marking a significant victory for the KIA forces.

Colonel Aung Naing, who was leading the defense during the Mansi battle, was killed in action on December 21, according to Kachin military sources and individuals familiar with his role. His death is seen as a major blow to the Military Council’s strategic operations in the region.

The capture of these battalions and the loss of a key commander underscore the intensifying conflict between the Military Council and resistance forces in northern Myanmar. The situation in Mansi has drawn attention to the growing capabilities of the KIA and its allies, who continue to challenge the military’s stronghold in Kachin State.
