As of January 4, the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense has reported a significant milestone in the ongoing struggle for freedom in Myanmar. Revolutionary forces, including the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and ethnic revolutionary groups, have established control over 144 townships nationwide, with 48 townships entirely under their authority.

This remarkable achievement underscores the growing influence of revolutionary forces since the military coup. By the end of December 2024, 44% of Myanmar’s territory has come under the administration of these groups. Among these, 95 townships have been effectively ruled, while 48 are fully occupied by the revolutionaries. Additionally, the revolutionary forces have asserted dominance over strategic infrastructure, including key union highways, major waterways, and critical transport routes.

The revolutionary war continues to intensify, affecting 79 townships across the nation. This means 24% of Myanmar’s land area is now actively engaged in the revolutionary struggle. The combined efforts of the PDF and ethnic groups have proven effective in resisting the military junta and fostering hopes for a federal democracy.

Despite the challenges, the revolutionary forces remain committed to their vision of liberating Myanmar from authoritarian rule. Their control over strategic regions not only disrupts the junta’s operations but also strengthens the people’s fight for justice and democracy.

The progress of revolutionary forces in Myanmar symbolizes a significant shift in the political landscape. It highlights the resilience of the people and their determination to bring about a brighter future for the country.
