On December 30, 2024, a meeting was held between South Korea’s National Assembly Policy Committee and the Myanmar Representative Office of the National Unity Government (NUG) to address the ongoing Myanmar revolution and challenges faced by Myanmar nationals in Korea. The discussion took place from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, focusing on visa issues and support for refugees fleeing the war.

Key participants included Lee Kang-il, a member of the National Policy Committee and elected representative from Chonju Sandan Township, along with Secretary Gun Deng Hun. From the NUG side, U Soe Moe Thu, head of the representative office, and U Win Por Maung, planning affairs lead, provided updates on the situation in Myanmar and the difficulties faced by displaced citizens.

Congressman Lee expressed his commitment to addressing human rights, labor issues, and refugee concerns, emphasizing his willingness to assist Myanmar nationals in crisis. He highlighted the importance of resolving visa challenges for revolutionary figures and ensuring the safety of those unjustly detained or impacted by the ongoing conflict.

The meeting explored ways to provide humanitarian aid and strengthen cooperation between South Korea and the NUG to support Myanmar’s struggle for democracy. By addressing visa barriers and offering practical assistance, the Korean government aims to play a crucial role in alleviating the plight of war-affected individuals and supporting the Myanmar revolution.
